Welcome Students! (to the Business Ethics Blog) |

Are you a student, searching the internet for a) help on your homework or b) ideas for an essay? That's great! I hope you find lots that's useful in my Business Ethics Blog. Here's some stuff you need to know: 1. For university assignments, it's always best to cite the "original" source of the ideas you use. So, if you want to quote something that I've quoted in my Blog, perhaps from the New York Times or some other news source, you should cite the original source if possible. So, follow the link I've provided, to see the original story. It's also best to read the ENTIRE story, so you can see the context for whatever bit I've quoted. 2. It's way better to cite me, and give me credit for my ideas, than it is to "borrow" (i.e., steal) them. If you like something I've written, you may be tempted to use my words in your own essay or something. That's totally cool, as long as you give me credit. Teachers & professors won't normally mind if you use someone else's ideas -- in fact, that's called "doing research." But, if you use my words or ideas without giving me credit, that's called plagiarism, and it's a very serious academic offence. At most schools, it can result in an "F" on an assignment or entire course, or even get you kicked out of school. It's just not worth the risk. 3. Looking for essay ideas? Looking for blog entries on a particular company? Check this blog's mega-index here. 4. Here's how to cite the Business Ethics Blog. If you use an idea or quotation from my blog, what should your bibliography or sources cited page say? Here's an example. If you wanted to cite, say this blog entry, your citation should look like this:
Or, you could use the full URL, to point directly at the specific entry you're citing, like this:
(Note that your teacher/prof might give you different instructions for citing on-line sources; if so, then do it their way! But otherwise, you'll probably be fine doing it the way I've shown above.) Anyway, welcome to my blog, and I hope you find it useful!
